In the Chaoshan region of eastern Guangdong, a unique folk dance called Yingge Dance (英歌舞) is gaining increasing attention worldwide. It is often called the "Chinese Warrior Dance" for its dynamic blend of opera, dance, and martial arts.

Recently, visitors from Hong Kong and Macao visited Fumei Village in Puning, Guangdong. At the Puning Fumei Youth Yingge Dance Team training center, they held Yingge sticks, learned dynamic movements from local masters, and experienced the passion and fighting spirit of the dance for the first time.

"I felt its power burst from within! When the sticks strike, they move in sync with our feet, and it feels as if the earth itself is vibrating!" shared Huang Meiqi excitedly, the artistic director of a Macao dance group. She was deeply impressed by Yingge Dance's charm and considered drawing on some of its elements to create a children's dance.

"The dance embodies the bold spirit of fighting for what you believe in, which shares the same spirit of the older generations in Chaoshan who ventured abroad to make a living," said Li Junhao, the team's chief coach. His team was founded in 2009 and has developed more than 100 members from diverse backgrounds.

Since the unique folk dance went viral online, they have been promoting it at home and abroad. In July, the team brought the dance to New York, where they performed a flash mob in Times Square. The audience enthusiastically applauded the energy and positive spirit of the dance, convincing the team that the Yingge Dance also resonates with overseas audiences.

"The performance marked a memorable milestone, showing that our culture can be seen on the global stage," Li Junhao recalled. Many young people are now carrying on the tradition. He also welcomes youth from Hong Kong and Macao to join in the Yingge Dance.
