Covering a 105 square-kilometer island area and 640 square-kilometer sea area, Hailing Island ranks the fourth largest island in Guangdong Province. Hailing Island boasts a host of prestigious national titles, including National 5A Tourist Attraction, One of China's Top Ten Treasure Islands, National Mangrove Wetland Park, and National Central Fishing Port etc..
Launched in July 2003, the South China Sea (Yangjiang) Fishing Season has a history of 22 years, making it a significant festive event in Guangdong Province. In 2025, it was held from August 15 to 17 on Hailing Island. This year's grand opening featured a record 3,400 fishing ships departing toward the fishing grounds. The event invited travelers to witness ancient sea worship ceremonies showcasing ocean reverence, while vibrant fishermen's wedding processions spotlight intangible cultural traditions.
