On April 16, the 2026 Overseas Chinese Promotion Conference on Guangdong's High-Quality Development was held in Guangzhou. With the theme of supporting integrated growth of manufacturing and service industries, the conference aims to showcase overseas Chinese the latest opportunities in the province and encourage them to foster partnerships with local players.
Since 2023, Guangdong has actively encouraged overseas Chinese to seize the opportunities in the high-quality development of the province, shedding light into both urban and rural areas. The conference helped facilitate 109 cooperative projects with overseas Chinese, each exceeding 10 million RMB (1.46 million USD). The total contracted volume reached 94.27 billion RMB (13.74 billion USD).
Ten key promotional projects were signed at the conference. A series of cross-border business cooperation was also settled between Guangzhou specialized markets and overseas Chinese organizations in Indonesia, Egypt, Spain, Mexico, and New Zealand. Representatives of the overseas Chinese community, including Zhou Zerong and Ye Ziying, delivered speeches to share their stories of partnerships.
To better promote trade and attract foreign investment through overseas Chinese, the conference launched a dedicated guidebook. It offers an introduction to Guangdong's key projects and products, outlines related policies on commodity export and foreign investment, and provides guidance on cross-border business cooperation.
Highlighting the contributions of overseas Chinese to the technological and industrial development of Guangdong, a batch of industrial parks and pilot zones funded by overseas Chinese in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Meizhou were officially designated as demonstration areas to facilitate capital, technology, and talent flows.
According to the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, it will host 35 special events to provide a direct platform for the overseas Chinese community to tap into the high-quality development of the province. The office aims to engage the dynamic community to enhance international cooperation, advance the development of a modern industrial system, and promote global trade in the province.
It has been reported that over 300 representatives from the overseas Chinese community attended the conference. The event was also live-streamed online, enabling overseas Chinese organizations, business people, and compatriots to watch the conference in real time.
