On October 17, the 13th Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment launched its South China activities at the Guangdong Science Center. Zhou Zhenhuan, Vice-Director of the Guangdong Science Center and Arnaud Baubérot, Science and Higher Education Attache of the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou, attended the event.

Since 2014, China and France have jointly organized the Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment each year, highlighting the deepening dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in environmental research, science and innovation.

This year's event was held under the theme "A Planet Full of Life", celebrating life's rich beauty while calling on people to protect it.

Laurent LEGODEC, the Consul General of France in Guangzhou, addressed the event by video. He stressed that the first meeting of the China-France Working Group on Climate and Environmental Challenges was held in May 2026. The China-France Carbon Neutrality Center (CNC) also remains active. It held its first annual meeting in Beijing in December 2025. These efforts demonstrate the willingness of China and France to work together in exploring greener development paths that are more respectful of biodiversity.

This year's South China program features a rich lineup of activities, including exhibitions on biodiversity and animal intelligence, lectures, public science workshops, film screenings and nature exploration activities that encourage the public to rediscover the natural environment around them. Chinese singer and actor Yao Chen is serving as the ambassador for this year's Environment Month. He called on the public to care for and protect the planet, starting with everyday actions.

Baubérot mentioned that the Guangdong Science Center, as a key platform for science communication and exchange, showcases Guangzhou's globally recognized strengths in technological innovation and research. He noted that the cooperation between the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou and the center is deepening.
