In January 1938, Japanese forces invaded and occupied Sanzao Island (in present-day Zhuhai, Guangdong), establishing it as a military base for their campaign to control South China. During their occupation, they killed 2,891 local Chinese civilians, caused more than 3,500 deaths through starvation, and secretly executed over 3,000 forced laborers.

Listed in the second batch of Counter-Japanese War National-Level Memorial Facilities and Sites, the relic includes the Grave of Million People, Japanese cliff inscriptions, comfort stations, and pillboxes, etc., as the solid evidence of Japan's war crimes in China.

1938年1月,侵华日军在三灶岛登陆,将此地作为侵略华南的军事基地,先后杀害我国同胞2891人,3500多人因饥饿死去,3000多名民工被秘密杀害。
三灶岛侵华日军罪行遗迹包括万人坟、千人坟、日本摩崖文字、慰安所、碉堡等,于2015年被列入国家级抗战纪念设施、遗址名录,是日本侵华战争的铁证。
