Chen Huanrong (1825-1890)
Chen Huanrong, a native of Qianmei Village, worked as a boatman in his early years before establishing his own shipping business and becoming a renowned "Red-Head Boat" owner at Zhanglin Port, affectionately known as "Boat Owner Buddha". In 1851, he co-founded "Qiantailong Trading Company" in Hong Kong with his clansmen, engaging in import and export trade and helping boost Hong Kong's entrepot trade. In his later years, he returned to his hometown and dedicated himself to public welfare, promoting clan unity, supporting education, and assisting those in need. For his kindness, the Qing imperial court honored him with the title of "Tongfeng Daifu" (a senior official rank) and built a memorial archway inscribed with "Benevolent and Generous". He passed away in 1890, and his tomb remains well-preserved. His eldest son was Chen Cihong.
Chen Cihong (1843-1921)
Given name Buluan, also known as Zizhou; a native of Qianmei Village, Longdu Town. His former residence is located in Chenghai District, Shantou City. At 12 years old, his close clansman Chen Xuanling was killed for joining an anti-Qing uprising led by Chen Shiye in Guantang, which implicated the entire clan. To escape danger, Chen Cihong and his family took refuge in a neighbor's home (the Wu family) and survived. After this incident, he gave up his studies to pursue business, followed his father to Hong Kong, China, and soon took over the family's "Qiantailong Trading Company". He later expanded the business to Thailand, building a transnational trade network and becoming a leading rice merchant in Thailand's business community at that time. He passed away in 1921 at the age of 78.
