Guangdong's Spring Festival Flower Market ("Walking Flower Street") is a treasured traditional local folk custom, inscribed on China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2021. Originating in Guangzhou, the ritual went viral across the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, and Macao. These markets are annually held before New Year's Eve. The fixed year-end event, blending flower trade with Chinese New Year blessings, embodies the locals' wishes for good fortune and beautiful prospects of the coming year.
Kumquat trees, narcissus, and peach blossoms stand as the three iconic floral emblems of the Chinese New Year in the region, each carrying deep cultural wishes for prosperity, good fortune, and happiness. Today, the flower fairs have evolved into vibrant cultural hubs, blending these timeless traditions with modern entertainment and interactive activities to offer locals and visitors an even more joyful and immersive festive experience.
