Neela, our Indian friend who has lived for years in Shaoguan, the birthplace of Cantonese culture, is always curious about the local culture. This time, he had the chance to try the classic Cantonese cuisine and intangible cultural heritage.

To better preserve Cantonese culture, the 5th Global Conference of the Cantonese will be held in Nanxiong, Shaoguan, from November 24 to 26. Cantonese people all over the world will gather for a food-themed reunion event to share nostalgia, strengthen solidarity, and boost development.

Cantonese people form the largest group among the three major Han ethnic subgroups in Guangdong, mainly distributed in the Pearl River Delta, centered in Guangzhou and surrounding areas. Ancestrally rooted in Zhuji Ancient Lane in Nanxiong, Shaoguan City, Cantonese people live across five continents today, with an estimated population of 70 million (based on incomplete statistics).

The Global Conference of the Cantonese is currently the most largest-scale, and most influential cultural fellowship event for Cantonese people worldwide. Co-hosted by the Overseas Friendship Association of Cantonese and global Cantonese communities, it takes place every two years in different cities—even different countries—and is renowned as the "Olympic Games" for Cantonese people all around the world.

Shaoguan's South China Tiger Breeding Base

Nestled at the foot of Nanling Mountain, the largest mountain range and a biodiversity hotspot in southern China, Shaoguan's South China Tiger Breeding Base isn't just a sanctuary for one of the earth's rarest predators. It's a living classroom where travelers can witness conservation in action.

Once reduced to fewer than 20 individuals in the wild, China's endemic tigers are now staging a fragile comeback, thanks to a blend of cutting-edge science, relentless conservation, and the unwavering dedication of a team that treats these big cats like family.
