Authorities in Guangdong have released an updated bilingual legal guide for foreign nationals living, working, or travelling in the province.
In January 2024, the Department of Justice of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Provincial Office for Law Popularization, and the Justice Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality jointly published The Legal Guides for Foreigners in Guangdong Province, a Chinese-English bilingual booklet providing targeted legal guidance for expats in Guangdong.
To improve services, an updated version was recently released by the Department of Justice of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Provincial Office for Law Popularization. It offers a bilingual legal reference designed to help foreigners better understand Chinese laws and regulations and settle into life in Guangdong.
In recent years, China has introduced or amended a number of laws, regulations, and policy measures to facilitate foreign nationals visiting China for tourism and business. The new Guide includes updates to the newly revised Arbitration Law and Marriage Registration Regulations, ensuring that all legal references remain current and enforceable.
The new Guide consists of three volumes: Travel Chapter, Work Chapter, and Life Chapter.

The Travel Chapter covers visas, prohibition on entry and exit, entry and exit of items, duration of stay and residence of foreign nationals, certificates for stay and residence of foreign nationals, and special administration. The special administration section provides detailed information on entry and exit administration in cases involving “illegal entry”, “repatriation” and “exit restriction”, as well as the administration and punishment of illegal employment and illegal residence.
The Work Chapter covers employment, investment and finance, social insurance, individual income tax, and awards for scientific and technological innovation.
The Life Chapter covers transportation and travel, daily communication, marriage and family, education for children, pet keeping, voluntary activities and religious activities.
