The Shenzhen Natural History Museum officially opened to the public on July 28. Centered on the theme "Connecting People and Nature," the museum features eight themed exhibition halls, tracing the story of nature from the cosmos and the evolution of Earth to the origins of life, human development and Shenzhen's natural environment. It offers visitors a journey through 4.6 billion years of natural history.
As one of the largest comprehensive natural history museums in South China, the museum is located in the Yanzi Lake area of Pingshan District, with a total floor area of 105,300 square meters. It is dedicated to the collection, exhibition and research of natural history, as well as natural science education.
The Cosmos Hall chronicles humanity's centuries-long quest to observe and comprehend the universe.
The Earth Hall focuses on Earth, exploring its formation and evolution.
The Evolution Hall traces the 3.8-billion-year history of life, from its earliest origins to the emergence of humans.
The Dinosaur Hall brings the Mesozoic Era to life through prehistoric fossils and skeletal specimens.
The Human Hall explores human origins and development through specimens of extant species and fossils of prehistoric species.
The Biology Hall uses biological classification as a guide to show the diverse ways in which plants and animals adapt to their environments.
The Ecology Hall offers an immersive look at diverse ecosystems, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, deserts and oceans, highlighting the intricate relationships between organisms and their environments.
The Homeland Hall shifts its focus to Shenzhen, exploring the city's relationship with nature and envisioning a more sustainable urban future.
The museum's architecture features flowing curves inspired by the meandering form of the Pingshan River, blending harmoniously with the surrounding lakeside landscape and hills. The museum has become a new cultural landmark in Pingshan.
