For over a century, Qiaopi, handwritten letters with remittances, kept overseas Chinese connected to their roots. Each envelope held not just money, but longing, love, and the ties that distance could not break. Now, Chinese prosecutors are working to preserve this memory.
When two elderly friends returned to their hometown after 70 years, they found the Qiaopiju (remittance firm) was left in a shabby condition with no care. With the help of prosecutors’ efforts to restore the remittance firm, historical memory and cultural heritage embedded in this land are well-preserved. Overseas Chinese find a new chance to keep their childhood memories alive.
