Located in Yuexiu District, the former CBD of Guangzhou, the Guangdong Provincial People's Stadium is one of the city's most historic sports landmarks, with a history of over 1,400 years.
The stadium has just completed an 11-month renovation in preparation for the 15th National Games, which will kick off on November 9. Key facilities such as the running tracks, lighting, seating, and football pitch have all been upgraded.

The Guangdong Provincial People's Stadium has hosted major events, including the 1980 Guangzhou International Football Friendship Invitational, the FIFA Women's World Championship, the National Games (6th and 9th editions), and the 2010 Asian Games. The stadium is also an important sports venue for Guangzhou citizens to do exercises and organize local competitions.
The stadium has gone through several renovations. The modern stadium had its facilities built step by step from 1975-1990. Then it was renovated for the 2010 Asian Games in 2009. And for the recent renovation for the 15th National Games, it had almost all facilities being renewed.

Now, the stadium covers an area of about 30,558 square meters, with a building area of 17,280 square meters. It can accommodate about 13,000 spectators. The complex includes a standard natural-turf football pitch, an athletics track, and a multifunctional gymnastics training hall.
The square of the stadium went through a major upgrade into a multi-functional spot for residents nearby to do exercises. Seats and pathways designed to meet diverse needs and are accessible to everyone, including those with strollers or wheelchairs. After renovation, what was once just an empty lawn has become a vibrant, usable space that connects malls and facilities around the square to offer people more convenience.
