China's first near-zero-carbon mega stadium
Tianhe Sports Center has hosted the National Games (6th and 9th editions) and the Asian Games. Its provides comprehensive facilities including a stadium, gymnasium, natatorium, tennis academy, baseball field, and basketball complex, with a newly opened skate park added this year.
Tianhe Sports Center went through a renovation for the 15th National Games and the Paralympic and Special Olympics Games, with green energy efficiency as a core highlight for the key upgrades, which cover systems and facilities including air-conditioning, lighting, exterior windows, and rubber running tracks. Citizens and visitors can experience one-stop services, such as event information queries, power bank rentals, and weather updates with the renovated smart light poles.
After the renovation, the venue's carbon reduction rate reaches 56.9 percent, cutting annual carbon emissions by approximately 352 tons. It is expected to save around 1.09 million kWh of electricity per year.

A "boundless" sports park renovated for people
Creating a "boundless" sports park stands as another highlight of the renovation. All venues of the Tianhe Sports Center are now connected. Walls and temporary structures have been replaced with open green spaces and seating areas, integrating scattered paths into the city's public space network. Peoplecan freely wander through this lush "boundless" sports park, jogging in the mornings, relaxing in the evenings, or enjoying quality family time on weekends.
The renovation also expands activity spaces for the public, making the Tianhe Sports Center an exercise venue more opened to the citizens and visitors. The previously unused second-floor platform of the stadium and several vacant areas have been converted into all-weather fitness zones, featuring a 700-meter sheltered fitness track that serves over 5 million runners annually. Closed outdoor public table tennis courts have been opened up and integrated into urban public spaces, while renovated health trails now welcome night runners.
